On the slide
From what was a very promising position, a position from which a serious top-four assault was possible, a few weeks ago, Saturday’s hosts are now slipping. They’ve won none of their last three, two of which they’ve lost, which means that they’re down to eighth in the table, five points shy of the coveted Champions League places.
A home match may look like the perfect opportunity to stop the rot, but Wolfsburg’s home form hasn’t been great in recent times. Florian Kohfeldt’s men have won just one of their last five at home, and that was only a narrow victory over strugglers Augsburg. They’ve lost three of their last four at Volkswagen Arena, scoring only three goals in the process.
Fortunes improving
In contrast to the hosts, Stuttgart have got their act together in recent weeks, leaving a trail of defeats behind with a win and a draw. Unfortunately, that doesn’t change how weak they’ve been away from home during the current Bundesliga campaign.
Only Furth, who are already destined for a return to Germany’s second flight, have picked up less travelling points than the visitors, who have taken just three from a possible 18 on the road. The main reason behind such poor form is a lack of offensive power. Pellegrino Matarazzo’s men have scored just four times in six away games, scoring more than once in a single fixture at no point.
Wolfsburg vs Stuttgart Predictions
Goals for is becoming a problem for the hosts, who’ve not scored more than once in any of their last five at home, scoring a measly total of four goals. Hardly the offensive form of a side at odds-on in the betting. If the visitors weren’t so lacklustre in the final third on their travels, they may appeal, though they too are a side that struggles for goals. On this basis, ‘Under 2.5 Goals’, especially at the current prices.
Both teams find it hard to make an impression going forward, so the defensive line of both should be confident of standing strong on Saturday. Moreover, low scoring games have been commonplace at Volkswagen Arena, with less than three goals being scored in 71% of Wolfsburg’s home matches.
