Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool key stats

  • Spurs were averaging 0.9 goals per game in the league under former boss Nuno Espirito Santo, this has doubled to 1.75 under Antonio Conte’s charge.
  • Although Spurs matches average just 2.36 goals per game, over 2.5 goals has happened 57% of the time.
  • Liverpool matches average 3.59 goals per game with over 2.5 goals occurring 76% of the time.
  • Mohamed Salah has either scored or assisted in 15 games straight, tying a record set by Leicester’s Jamie Vardy.

Spurs back after Covid

Spurs haven’t played since 5 December as their last three matches have been called off including Premier League fixtures away to Brighton and then Leicester City.

While those unaffected will at least be well rested, those affected by Covid may struggle for fitness and may still not be able to participate, giving some fringe names opportunities to impress new boss Conte.

It is straight back into the lion’s den for Spurs as they take on a relentless Liverpool side who have won their last six Premier League matches.

Liverpool getting stronger

Liverpool won 3-1 on Thursday night with relative ease, despite going 1-0 down early, making it six straight league wins and eight straight in all competitions.

As well as Salah scoring to tie Vardy’s record mentioned above, Diogo Jota was back on the scoresheet and Roberto Firmino, missing since early November, made a substitute appearance and assisted Trent Alexander-Arnold’s late thunderbolt.

Only Manchester City are on a better run than Liverpool, having won seven straight league games and with the Cityzens not looking like losing anytime soon, the pressure will be on the Reds to keep pace.

Tottenham Hotspur vs Liverpool predictions

Though Spurs can play this game it does not mean all their stars will be back, just that they now have enough players to play. The squad depth will likely be lacking, and we don’t know what sort of line up they can put out.

Although Spurs have been much improved under Conte, there couldn’t be a worse team to face after a long layoff than Liverpool and we believe the Reds will take this one.

We believe that although Spurs have been steady defensively all year, the lack of match fitness will be telling especially in the late stages and there could be an onslaught of goals. We predict there will be over 2.5 goals.
