This League Two duo are battling out at opposite ends of the League Two table with Newport County looking to simply survive whilst Luton Town are gunning for promotion.

Although I said the word ‘battling’ above, that is seemingly the opposite of what Newport are doing right now and yet another defeat at the weekend to Blackpool means they are now seven points off safety.

As mentioned on the weekend write-up, Newport have goal-scoring problems and, although they have found the back of the net in their last three league games, they have not scored more than twice in any of their last ten outings. Furthermore, they average just 1.11 goals per game which is unsurprisingly one of the worst records in the league.

However, it is also the defence which has been problematic and, after keeping a clean sheet against Morecambe, it was back to the old ways on Saturday as they let in three against Blackpool.

Saturday was yet another home match without a victory for the Exiles which means their win-less run at home now stretches to five games. With play-off-chasing Luton coming to town on Tuesday, that is hardly likely to improve.

Luton could only manage a draw in their play-off showdown against promotion rivals Exeter City but this point still keeps them in the top seven – just about. However, it does still mean that they have not won any of their last three matches.

Nathan Jones’s men may not have kept a clean sheet against Exeter but their defensive performance over the course of the campaign has been fantastic with just 34 goals conceded in 37 games – the second-best record in the league. Luton have struggled for goals in their last three with just one goal scored but should fancy their chances of getting a couple against relegation-threatened Newport County.

The Hatters are currently on a six-match unbeaten run away from home but it is also worth mentioning that they have only tasted victory in two out of those six. Offence is the problem here with, a 4-0 victory against Yeovil Town aside, just five goals in those six games. Defensively they have been as sound as always with two consecutive clean sheets in their last two away from Kenilworth Road.

The sensible option here is to back Luton. They may not be in fantastic form but they are certainly having a better time than Newport at the moment and are by far the better team. It would be a real surprise if the Hatters didn’t come away with all three point here so 21/20 on the away win in a bet worth placing.
