Newcastle United vs Brentford key stats

  • Newcastle’s 49 goals conceded to former players is the highest in the history of the Premier League. Ivan Toney returns to St James’ Park with Brentford.
  • Newcastle is the only winless team in the Premier League. The last two winless sides, Norwich, and Burnley both got their first wins against Brentford in the past two matchweeks.
  • Those two defeats for Brentford are part of a four-game losing run.
  • No team has conceded more goals this season at home than Newcastle.

Eddie Howe’s Black and White Army

Newcastle’s search for a new manager is finally over and Eddie Howe will be in the dugout searching for his and Newcastle’s first win. Howe was last seen in the Premier League with relegated Bournemouth a couple of seasons back.

The Geordie faithful overall are happy with the appointment, while some neutrals looking on have poured scorn on the appointment, pointing out that Howe’s last appointment ended in relegation.

Confidence appears to be high in the Magpies’ camp but, it remains to be seen whether that translates to three points on Saturday afternoon.

Is Brentford’s honeymoon period over?

Premier League first timers Brentford got off to a great start beating Arsenal on opening day. They later recorded victories over Wolverhampton Wanderers and West Ham, and also drew 3-3 with Liverpool.

However, it has been doom and gloom since with four defeats on the bounce and Brentford edging slowly towards the relegation zone.

Toney last scored in the Premier League two months ago in Brentford’s 2-0 victory away to Wolves. Naturally, Brentford have found goals hard to come by since Toney’s barren run.

Newcastle United vs Brentford predictions

Three Premier League teams will see new faces in their dugouts this weekend.

Of the three, we believe Howe and Newcastle are the best equipped to get a debut win. Reinforcements to the squad will be coming in January, however, a massive improvement is needed before then. The Geordies are confident Howe is the man to deliver this.

Brentford also represent the weakest opposition any of three new head coaches will face this weekend, with Brentford on a four-match losing run including defeats to Burnley and Norwich. Based on this we recommend Newcastle to win.

Newcastle have conceded the most home goals in the Premier League and second most overall behind Norwich, though we believe Newcastle will win, we believe Brentford will score and who better to do so than Ivan Toney. Toney to score anytime is recommended.

Newcastle United vs Brentford team news

Newcastle United team news

It remains to be seen what changes will be made for Howe’s first game. The only player definitely out is Paul Dummett.

Matt Ritchie, Callum Wilson and Ryan Fraser are all familiar faces to Howe from their time at Bournemouth. Fraser is doubtful after pulling out of the Scotland squad, however, he has since been seen training.

Brentford team news

To add to Brentford’s woes, they also have a lengthy injury list with eight players ruled out due to injury. Mads Bech Sorensen, Zanka, Yoane Wissa, Shandon Baptiste, Kristoffer Ajer, David Raya, Josh Dasilva and Mathias Jensen (due to Covid-19) all miss out.
