Matteo Berrettini in top form but will it be enough against Djokovic

Matteo Berrettini made history on Friday by becoming the first-ever Italian to reach the Wimbledon final. Berrettini did the job by beating Hubert Hurkacz in the semi-final in four sets. Matteo has been in great form in the past two weeks at The All England Club and throughout the season. This is his first Grand Slam final and it surely won’t be the last.

The seventh seed’s service has been his strength on the grass winning 81% of his points behind his first serve in the tournament. In his semi-final match, Berrettini hit 22 aces and was not broken in the match. The Italian is in his peak form and full of confidence but he’ll need to be at top of his game against the world’s number one.

Berrettini key stats

  • Berrettini has played 33.8 games per match in Wimbledon
  • The number of winners per match by Berrettini is 38.2
  • 13.2 is the number of aces by Berrettini

Novak Djokovic as hungry to win as ever

The world number one is marching steadily towards his third Grand Slam of the year and the 20th of his career. Djokovic is 34 and no one can argue that he will break the record of the most Grand Slam wins held by Rafael Nadal and Roger Federer very soon. Novak looks unbeatable right now as he is on a 17 match winning streak.

Djokovic’s latest casualty was Denis Shapovalov in the semi-final. The Serb won in three tight sets. He showed his amazing defensive skills as he returned Shapovalov’s groundstrokes and many times turned defense to offense and won incredible points. After 19 Grand Slams and 85 Tour titles, Djokovic is still hungry to win and we can’t see anyone on tour who can stop him.

Djokovic Key Stats

  • The average first-serve points won by Djokovic is 86%
  • Djokovic has played 30.6 games per match in Wimbledon
  • The number of times Djokovic’s serve was broken in Wimbledon is four

Matteo Berrettini vs Novak Djokovic Prediction

There is no doubt that Matteo Berrettini deserves to be in the final after very solid performances in all of his matches leading up to the final. He came to Wimbledon after winning the title in Queen’s and continued his impressive form in the world’s most prestigious tournament on grass.

Djokovic will be ready for this challenge. The Serb has shown an amazing capability to deal with all players who play different styles. He is on top of his game and we don’t see Berrettini posing a big threat on him. Novak could handle Shapovalov’s big serve and he will do the same in the final.

The odds for a Djokovic win is 1.20. We have to look elsewhere for better profit. We find under 39 games a reasonable bet as we think Berrettini can win enough games to make the number of games in the match close to that total.
