Manchester United vs Arsenal key stats

  • Manchester United have scored just six first half goals in the league so far compared to 15 in the second half.
  • Arsenal have scored only three away goals and conceded 11 this season.
  • Man United matches average 3.31 goals per game with over 2.5 goals coming in 54% of the time.
  • Arsenal matches average 2.46 goals per game with under 2.5 goals coming in 62% of the time.

The new United?

Ralf Rangnick has been confirmed as interim manager for Manchester United, however, he will have to wait before making his first appearance in the dugout due to the processes regarding his work visa.

Michael Carrick remains in charge for this one and he has overseen a win in the Champions League over Villarreal and then Sunday’s 1-1 draw against Chelsea. Jadon Sancho scored in both games and looks to carry on the momentum and put a poor start to his United career behind him.

Notably in the Chelsea match, Cristiano Ronaldo started from the bench, coming on for Sancho in the 64th minute. It remains to be seen whether this is going to be a regular occurrence under new management or whether he is getting rest in due to a heavy upcoming schedule.

Back to winning ways for Arsenal

After a 4-0 thrashing away to Liverpool on 20 November, Arsenal got back to winning ways, dispatching Newcastle 2-0 at home.

Arsenal were by far the better side and took their recent Premier League record to four wins from their last five. Only Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are above the Gunners in the form table.

Arsenal have scored only three away goals so far this season, but striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has enjoyed his last two trips to Old Trafford scoring in both.

Manchester United vs Arsenal Predictions

We expect this game to be tight given the lack of scoring for Man United in first halves this season and the distinct lack of away goals in general for Arsenal.

However, we believe it will be United who will pull away in the second half to take the win. We recommend backing draw half-time, United full-time.

As we believe the scoring will be restricted to one half of play, we also recommend backing under 2.5 goals in the match at evens.

Manchester United vs Arsenal team news

Manchester United team news

Raphael Varane, Paul Pogba and Edinson Cavani continue to miss out due to injury, whereas Luke Shaw could be available after missing the last two games with concussion.

Arsenal team news

Granit Xhaka remains on the sidelines with his knee injury.

Kieran Tierney has been an unused substitute in the past two games. Bukayo Saka is doubtful after he came off with a thigh injury against Newcastle. His replacement Gabriel Martinelli scored within minutes and hopes this will be enough to keep him in the starting 11.
