Juventus will play to win despite securing qualification
Juventus suffered their biggest defeat in the Champions League as they were thrashed 4-0 by Chelsea on the previous matchday and as a result, the Bianconeri lost top spot of the group to the Blues. There is a slight chance for the Old Lady to get back on top however, if Juve win and Chelsea draw or lose to Zenit. Hence, Allegri will play to win as he prefers to play in the knockout stages with home advantage in the second leg.
After four consecutive wins in the group stage, the result at Stamford Bridge was too heavy for Juventus. That followed another defeat at home to Atalanta in Serie A. However, in the last two games, the Bianconerri won with clean sheets. Remarkably, the last six matches of Juventus saw just one team score. With so much at stake on Wednesday, Allegri is certain to send his troops out in search of victory.
Malmo playing for pride
Malmo didn’t have the best of experiences in this year’s Champions League. In fact, the Blue Ones scored their first goal in five matches during their last fixture against Zenit. Also, it was their first point of the UCL campaign as the match ended in a draw. Moreover, Malmo had the same fate as they did when they finished fourth in their last UCL participation in 2015/16.
With 13 goals conceded in five UCL matches, Malmo have the third-worst defensive record in the group stage. Also, offensively they share the worst record with Dynamo Kyiv and Shakhtar. In their match against Zenit last time out, the Blue Ones were seconds away from a win as they led until the 92nd minute. However, Zenit scored through a penalty and equalized killing Malmo’s dream of finishing third.
Juventus vs Malmo Prediction
Little surprise here as Juventus emerge as the overwhelming favorites to win this game with odds of 1.17. To point out, Juve beat Malmo 3-0 in Sweden on matchday one and they are expected to repeat a similar scoreline.
On the other hand, the bookies are expecting over 2.5 goals and are paying 1.54 for it. And looking at the statistics, Juve’s last three of five home matches produced that number of goals. Moreover, Bianconeri’s last two UCL games produced four or more goals after beating Zenit at home 4-2 before that loss in London to Chelsea.
For our prediction and since the odds for a Juventus win is very low, we will go with the total goals market and predict over 2.5 goals. As for our second prediction, we will back double chance outcome combined with both teams not scoring in this match.
