Iran to extend their lead at the top
A perfect start for Iran in the WCQ Qatar 2022 campaign saw them clinch the top spot with three wins in as many games. Now they will be looking for another win that would extend their lead to five points. In a group where it looks like a two-horse race between Iran and South Korea, both of these teams seem to almost guarantee a place in the finals.
Yet to concede a goal in this third stage of the qualifications, coach Dragan Skocic’s team beat the UAE in their last match. In fact, it was a hard-fought win as Skocic’s team had the lesser part of ball possession. However, they were more decisive in front of goal as they scored their only goal in the 70th minute.
Iran Key Points
- “Team Melli” scored in all of their last ten matches
- Iran had clean sheets in eight of their last ten matches
- In their last four home games, Iran scored on average two goals per match
South Korea need a better performance in Tehran
Despite collecting seven points from their three matches so far, South Korea weren’t very convincing in their games so far. Notably, a 0-0 draw with Iraq followed a tough win over Lebanon and then a 2-1 last gasp win over Syria. Certainly, as the results suggest, the Tigers suffered in their three matches.
With ten appearances in the World Cup, South Korea need much improvement as they travel to Tehran. Moreover, South Korea are the only Asian team to finish as high as fourth place in the 2002 edition. Tottenham’s Son came to the rescue as he scored in the 88th minute the winner to claim all three points against Syria.
South Korea Key Points
- The Tigers won just one of their last four away games
- South Korea scored in seven of their last ten matches
- In their last ten matches, South Korea scored on average 2.9 goals per match
Iran vs South Korea Prediction
Despite the fact that South Korea are five points ahead of their closest chasers UAE, they still need to grab points. With seven matches still to play anything is possible in these qualifiers.
The same goes for Iran, coach Skocic will keep the focus of his team high to keep on winning and grab the qualification berth as early as possible.
The odds for an Iran win is quite high with 2.31 at Vbet. While a South Korea win pays 4.10.
However, we think it’s best to bet with a double chance as South Korea might play for a win and grab at least a point.
