These two sides are really lacking confidence at the moment with both of them suffering a high number of losses in recent times. This means that neither of them are likely to qualify for Russia 2018 next year.

Hungary had a decent start to their World Cup Qualifying campaign with seven points taken from a possible 12, however, they have now lost their last four to nil (including friendlies). These poor results put them eight points behind Portugal in second.

As you can tell by those last four results, the Magyars have really struggled in the final third in recent months. Defensively they have also been poor with nine goals conceded in that time.

Although they have been poor at home in the last year or so, Hungary do have an excellent competitive home record with just one qualification defeat on home soil since September 2014. That defeat, against Switzerland last October, was also Hungary’s first home World Cup qualification defeat since September 2012.

Latvia are bottom of Group B with just three points taken from six matches. This puts them 12 points off Portugal in second so qualification is now virtually impossible. Unfortunately for them, there are no signs of revival going into this game with Latvia having lost their last seven consecutive matches – including friendlies.

Aleksandrs Starkovs’ side have been poor in both boxes in this qualifying campaign. They have conceded an average of two goals per game in their last six qualification matches – scoring just twice in that time. Additionally, Latvia have not scored over 1.5 goals in any of their last eight outings.

Sarkanbaltsarkanie have an atrocious away record in World Cup Qualifying with one win, one draw and an alarming seven losses since September 2009. Furthermore, they have only kept one clean sheet on their travels in that time.

Both of these sides are suffering from lack of confidence at the moment and so many may expect rather tentative performances from the both of them. However, given that there is very little riding on this match in terms of World Cup qualification, I think we may see these two play more expansively as they look to take advantage of one another’s lack of confidence. With this in mind, I think we could see a few goals. ‘Over 2.5 Goals Total’ is priced at a profitable 11/10 – a bet which would have been a winner in six of Hungary’s last seven home World Cup qualifiers as well as in all but two of the previous meetings between the sides.
