Dominic Thiem vs Nick Kyrgios predictions for this round three clash in the Men’s Singles 2021 Australian Open in Melbourne. Number 3 seed D. Thiem will play home favourite unseeded N. Kyrgios. Read on for our free prediction and betting tips.
Dominic Thiem faced with a tough path
After winning his first Grand Slam in the US Open in 2020, Dominic Thiem will be looking to go far in this tournament and why not add a second title to his name.
He looked in impeccable form in the first two matches especially in the second round against Dominik Koepfer where he lost just six games.
The Austrian will face a tough test in the 3rd round playing against Kyrgios. Thiem is faced with a brutal draw in his quest to better his runner up position from last year.
Nick Kyrgios to use home crowd for motivation
Kyrgios is unseeded in this year’s Australian Open but one can never underestimate this guy in front of his home court.
He showed his motivation and will to win in Melbourne in his 2nd round match against Frenchman Humbert by winning in five sets after being down two sets to one and a break down in the fourth set.
Key Stats
- This is only their second meeting. The first one was won by Thiem after Kyrgios retired
- Thiem hasn’t lost a set in two matches
- Kyrgios is on a 4-1 record this year
Dominic Thiem vs Nick Kyrgios Prediction
Dominic Thiem looks very sharp so far in the tournament. His brutal forehand which is arguably one of the best on tour right now is even improving and getting him easy victories.
With 34 winners in his second-round match helped by 14-15 net points won, Thiem, is surely the favorite to win this match. But he knows he has to be at his best and not let Kyrgios get into the match and get the crowd involved in favor of their homeboy.
Kyrgios didn’t play almost all year in 2020 and a three and half hour on-court battle in the second could have its toll on the Australian.
We predict Thiem will win in a tough four-set battle.
