Daniil Medvedev looking set for his 1st grand slam title
Medvedev has been in impeccable form winning 18 consecutive matches. What’s even more impressive is that ten of those 18 matches have come against top ten players.
After relatively easy first and second round matches against Pospisil and Carballes, the Russian had to fight off a glute injury in the third round and beat Krajinovic in five sets.
He found his form quickly though in the third round beating American Mcdonald in straight sets in 89 minutes.
Andrey Rublev feels this is his time to shine
Andre Rublev had the most wins on tour in 2020 and he hasn’t lost that form coming into 2021. The Russian won with his compatriot and opponent in this match Medvedev the ATP cup last month.
The 23 year old continued his flawless performances in this year’s first Grand Slam by winning his first three matches without dropping a set despite facing the likes of Feliciano Lopez, Casper Ruud and Yannick Hanfmann.
Rublev hasn’t beaten Medvedev in their three matches played against each other. The last match was in the 2020 US Open where Medvedev won in three sets.
Key Stats
- Medvedev is on a 18 match winning streak
- Rublev had 41 wins in 2020 the most among any ATP player
- Both players are 8-0 in 2021
Daniil Medvedev vs Andrey Rublev Prediction
Both of these players are in top form which makes their match in this quarter final a blockbuster and very hard to predict the outcome.
Medvedev showed he is hungry to mount a challenge for the title this year with his great defensive game, incredible groundstroke accuracy and flat backhand has suited very well on the hard courts of Melbourne.
Rublev on the other hand has a much more aggressive approach. He can finish points early with his powerful forehand. He has improved his tactical game as well as he had shown throughout last season.
We think it will be a close match and predict that both players will win a set.
