Preliminary review and match prediction for Chelsea vs Newcastle United
Chelsea goes into this match on a run of four straight league wins with their most recent wins coming against relegation threatened Burnley and Norwich City after wins against Crystal Palace and Tottenham Hotspur.
The Blues have had a decent run of fixtures but based on current form, Newcastle could be their toughest test for a while.
To add to this, the recent sanctions against owner Roman Abramovich and the knock-on effect this has on daily operations at Chelsea could either be a detriment or could spur the Blues on.
Chelsea appears to have all but locked up third place, however, Arsenal is chasing them up and any further dropped points at home could let the Gooners in.
On Thursday night, Newcastle came away from their trip to Southampton with all three points after coming from behind to win 2-1 to give the Saints only their second home defeat all season.
Southampton have similar home form to Chelsea which should give the Magpies some encouragement of being able to come back to the North East with at least a point.
Newcastle will be on a high after new signings Chris Wood and Bruno Guimaraes both got off the mark in netting their first goals for the club, the latter of which was an audacious back heel volley that will be talked about for some time to come.
