Barbora Krejcikova’s brave run continues

World number 33 Barbora Krejcikova reached her first-ever Grand Slam semi-final after beating teenage sensation Coco Gauff in straight sets. The Czech continued her great run at Roland Garros as she proves match after match that she is not winning by chance.

Krejcikova had never made it past qualification in Wimbledon or the US Open and this year had reached the second round of the Australian Open. She was the underdog in her game against Gauff but the 25-year-old defied the odds and delivered another winning performance.

Since losing the first set of the first match, Barbora hasn’t conceded any in the next four matches. Against Gauff, the American was serving for the first set at 5-3 but the Czech managed to break back and won it in the tiebreak. We knew Maria Sakkari would be a very tough opponent for the defending champion Iga Swiatek but the greek proved to be much more than that and went on to win in straight sets after some very aggressive play from the baseline.

Sakkari had a nervy start losing her serve to go down 0-2 in the first set. But the Greek quickly bounced back and after breaking back Swiatek’s serve she went on to win the first set 6-4. 

In the second set, Sakkari continued to control the rallies from the baseline and took advantage of Swiatek’s pain in her leg and low first-serve percentage and went on to break her in the first game and held her serve to close the second set with 6-4.
