Aslan Karatsev in unknown territory on grass

Before this season, Aslan Karatsev had never played a professional tournament on grass before. In his first match in Queen’s London ATP grass courts, he beat Alejandro Tabilo in three sets before exiting from the second after losing to Cameron Norrie in two sets.

Karatsev started this year in great fashion reaching the Australian Open sem-final in his first-ever participation. He lost to eventual champion Novak Djokovic. After that, he won his first ATP tour title in Dubai after some very good wins against the likes of Sinner, Sonego, and Rublev. Karatsev is a very good player on hard courts but still needs to prove himself on the grass. He beat Djokovic in Belgrade in the semi-final but lost the final to Berrettini.

Karatsev Key Points

  • Six aces per match is Karatsev’s average on grass this year
  • The average games per set played by Karatsev on grass is 9.4
  • Karatsev has won 48% of the total games he has played

Jeremy Chardy to use his experience in his tough match

World number 61 lost two of his matches on grass this season. Chardy lost to Hanfmann in the first round of the Stuttgart Open in two sets. In his second tournament in Queen’s London, the Frenchman faced world number 38 and in-form Alexander Bublik in three sets.

Chardy had a good start to the season reaching back-to-back semi-finals in Antalya and Melbourne 2. He also had great results beating Humbert and Goffin in Rotterdam before losing to Rublev in the quarter-final. Jeremy is a very experienced player and can be a tough opponent.

Chardy Key points

  • 37.8 games played per match is Chardy’s average in Wimbledon in his career
  • Chardy has won 50% of his games in Wimbledon
  • The average number of games played per set in Wimbledon by Chardy is 9.89

Aslan Karatsev vs Jeremy Chardy Prediction

As we saw in the preview, Aslan Karatsev is playing his third match in his career on grass against a player who has been playing in Wimbledon for 12 years. So definitely experience is on Chardy’s side.

The Frenchman’s best result was reaching the round of 16 back in 2014. It will be tough for him to repeat the same result as he also is in not good form on grass but against a player like Karatsev he might have a chance if he can read the Russian’s serve.

Karatsev will rely on his big serve and try to win as many points as possible behind it and we think he will. Hence we will back a high number of games to be played in this match.
