Monday’s Russian Premier League match looks like a rather one-sided contest as Akhmat Grozny (formerly Terek Grozny) host Arsenal Tula.

Oleg Kononov’s Akhmat side have been on a bad run recently and have now lost three on the bounce – putting them ninth in the table after six games. It is still early in the season but they need to pick up again quickly to ensure they are still in the race for Europe come the end of the campaign.

The Chechen side have been so reliable at the back in recent years but it has been a completely different scenario this term and they have now conceded ten goals in their last three. However, they had actually kept three Premier League clean sheets in their first three outings so they clearly know how to defend properly. It must also be mentioned that they have found the back of the net in all but one of their league matches this season.

Akhmat did lose their last home match (to Kononov’s former side Krasnodar) but, traditionally, the Chechens have a good record on their own turf and had won their previous three matches to nil at Akhmat Arena before that defeat to the Bulls.

Arsenal are currently sitting in the relegation playoff places with just four points to their name after six outings. They did manage to stop the rot a bit in their last game by drawing at home to Ural but things are still looking bleak.

Miodrag Bozovic’s men have had a bad time at the back since gaining promotion back to the Russian Premier League in 2016. They conceded 40 goals last season and have so far kept just one clean sheet this time around. Even that clean sheet was against SKA Khabarovsk who were no doubt feeling the effects of an 8,000km trip from the Far East.

Away form has been absolutely horrendous for the Red-Yellows for a long time and they have not recorded an away win in the top flight since April 2015 – a total of 22 matches.

Although Akhmat are in poor form, I would back them to win here. It must be mentioned that all three of those recent Akhmat losses came against teams who are expected to finish either above or relatively near them come the end of the campaign. With this in mind, facing Arsenal should be an easier task. The fact that the Chechens are at home will also help their cause here, especially given Arsenal’s pathetic away form. 5/6 on the Akhmat win may not quite hit the Evens mark but it is still exceptional value and almost seems like a license to print money for punters.
