Just two teams from England’s fourth tier take to the field on Tuesday night as Accrington play host to Cambridge at the Crown Ground – a fixture that has tended to throw up a few goals in recent times.

As they sit in 12th position, it would be easy to conclude that Cambridge have little left to play for this season, but in reality they’re only five points shy of the play-offs, and, with a game in hand, will certainly be lining up a late challenge.

Recent away trips have been particularly fruitful for the visiting side as they’ve picked up maximum points from their last three on the road. However, Accrington have dramatically improved over the last few months and are certainly no slouches on their own patch, especially in an attacking sense. Realistically, for one reason or another, both teams could be fancied to get the job done here but the bet that appeals most is ‘Both Teams to Score’.

In their respective home and away matches of late, neither of these two have had much trouble when it comes to finding the net. Accrington have scored in each of their last nine home matches, while Cambridge have found the back of the net in eight of their last ten on their travels, including each of their last four.

Scoring goals is something that seemingly comes natural to John Coleman’s men, although keeping a clean sheet often proves to be a step too far for the Lancashire club. Accrington come into this match having failed to keep a clean sheet in any of their last three and have successfully shut out their opposition in just three of their last ten overall. In addition, the hosts have kept just four clean sheets (in 19 matches) at home all season. If Cambridge turn up in a similar mood to any of their recent away outings, this stat isn’t likely to improve.

John Coleman has turned his side into one that is very much attack-minded and while this is indeed yielding results going forward, against a very capable side such as Cambridge, it could easily cost them from a defensive point of view. After all, the visitors have found the net in each of their last four on the road and have failed to score in just 28% (5/19) of their away matches this season.

Considering the scoring form that Accrington have been in of late, notching 11 times in their last five matches, as well as failing to score just twice at home this season, it would be something of a surprise if they failed to notch at least once in this fixture. However, with Cambridge really needing a result to get themselves closer to the coveted play-off places, coupled with the fact that they’ve frequently found the net on the road, the visiting side are also fancied to get themselves on the score-sheet.
