The Tokyo 2020 Organizing Committee will reduce the number of athletes at the Olympic Opening Ceremony
According to Yomiuri, it was originally planned that 11,000 athletes from 200 countries would attend the event. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, the Games organizing committee is going to reduce this number. The International Olympic Committee (IOC) expects about 6,000 athletes to attend the opening ceremony.
Thus, the organizers hope to avoid crowding in the waiting area during the ceremony at the stadium and prevent the spread of the virus.
Readers may recall that the Olympic Games in Tokyo were scheduled to be held from July 24 to August 9, 2020, but were postponed to the period from July 23 to August 8, 2021 due to the Covid-19 pandemic.
