Manchester United makes surprise move to snatch Ligue 1 defensive sensation away from Chelsea”

Manchester United are weighing up a move for Olympic Lyon’s defensive sensation Malo Gusto and are looking to beat Chelsea to the signing of the 19years old defender.

Premier League heavyweights Chelsea and Manchester United are locked in a battle to secure the services of highly-rated Olympique Lyon defender Malo Gusto, according to reports. RMC Sport’s Fabrice Hawkins has stated on Twitter that the Blues are currently in negotiations with Lyon to bring the 19-year-old to Stamford Bridge, but United are hoping to hijack the move.

It is understood that Chelsea have already agreed personal terms with the French U21 international and are looking to offer him a contract of longer than five years. However, Manchester United have urged Gusto not to rush a decision and consider all options available to him.

The acquisition of Gusto would provide competition for Reece James and Cesar Azpilicueta in the right-back spot for Chelsea, with James having a history of injuries and Azpilicueta nearing the end of his career. Manchester United, on the other hand, have Diogo Dalot and Aaron Wan-Bissaka at their disposal, with Dalot being the preferred option for coach Erik ten Hag, while Wan-Bissaka has had to play second fiddle for most of the campaign. However, in recent weeks, the England U21 international has been given more playing time due to Dalot’s absence and has performed admirably.

The young defender has caught the eye of many with his performances for Lyon, breaking into the first team during the previous campaign and once again proving to be a key player this season despite the club’s struggles. Chelsea have already been active in the transfer window, signing a number of players to strengthen their squad.

It remains to be seen where Gusto will end up, but one thing is for sure, both Chelsea and Manchester United see him as a valuable addition to their squad and will be looking to secure his signature in the near future.
