Louis van Gaal has explained the reason behind his decision to start Andries Noppert in goal for the Netherlands in the ongoing 2022 Qatar World Cup.

Louis van Gaal has heaped praise on Andries Noppert and explained why the goalkeeper starts for the Netherlands in the Qatar World Cup ahead of their game against Qatar.

The Dutch team is decent but has some questions in their goalkeeper department but so far, Noppert has performed brilliantly for the Netherlands.

The Heerenveen goalkeeper has started in Holland’s opening two World Cup games against Senegal and Ecuador and came out with top performances.

Noppert made some brilliant saves to help the Netherlands walk out with a 1-1 draw against Ecuador and he’s onbviously likely to retain his starting role against Qatar tomorrow.

On why the 28-year-old has started both games for the Dutch team, Louis van Gaal said: “Andries Noppert has a personality which shows that he is not impressed by a World Cup. He is also good in the build-up play and knows how to stop shots. That’s why he plays.”

The Netherlands can finish as the winners of Group A when they face Qatar on Tuesday. A win over the host nation will see them finish the group stage with 7 points from possible 9.
