After winning the Carabao Cup, Gary Neville has warned Arsenal and Manchester City that a ‘dangerous’ Manchester United will be coming after them in the near future.

United defeated Newcastle 2-0 at Wembley on Sunday, winning their first trophy since the Europa League in 2017. Casemiro scored a header and Sven Botman scored an own goal.

It is the first trophy of the Erik ten Hag era, with the club looking completely transformed since his arrival last summer.

The Red Devils are still in contention for a ‘quadruple’ of trophies in Ten Hag’s first season, with the club still in the FA Cup and Europa League, and they are currently eight points behind Premier League leaders Arsenal.

‘At the end of last season, some of those players were part of a team that I and other Manchester United fans labelled a disgrace,’ club legend Neville told Sky Sports.

‘It was terrifying to watch. They were split. The transformation is dramatic. Erik ten Hag has done something incredible.

‘We didn’t win a trophy between 2003 and 2006, and you feel like you’ll never win a league again, or be up there again. This trophy was the catalyst for the squad to feel confident and believe in itself.

‘With a medal around their neck, this squad will be dangerous because you like to think Erik ten Hag will improve them again in the next 12 to 18 months.

‘They’re not close to Arsenal or Manchester City, that’s clear, but where they’re at and what they’re doing is something I couldn’t have predicted six months ago.’

‘Erik ten Hag was brought in to try and rebuild the club, get them to compete a little bit more,’ said fellow United legend Roy Keane.

‘I’ve been very critical of what’s happened in the last few years, and I disliked what they stood for. They weren’t a team, they weren’t together, there were issues on and off the field, but what the manager has accomplished in such a short period of time is incredible.

‘They’ve done a good job of recruiting, and they have a good spirit. They weren’t at their best today, but they did win a football game, which the fans appreciated.

‘There’s a lot of hard work ahead, the players have to use this as a springboard to win more trophies in the coming years, that’s what it’s all about playing for Man Utd.’
