Chelsea Scouts Keep Close Watch on Highly Rated World Cup Star.
Chelsea have been closely monitoring Porto’s talented goalkeeper, Diogo Costa, according to 90min. The London club is reportedly in the market for a long-term number one shot-stopper, despite Kepa Arrizabalaga’s recent solid performances between the sticks.
Edouard Mendy, who has been sidelined with a finger injury, is expected to depart the club at the end of the season. The winner of the 2021 Best Goalkeeper Award has been demoted to the bench due to a series of poor performances and errors, leaving Kepa as the preferred option in goal.
Unfortunately for Mendy, his World Cup campaign did little to boost his reputation, with costly mistakes against Netherlands and an underwhelming performance against England. On the other hand, Costa, at 23 years of age, has been a standout for Porto this season, recording ten clean sheets and following up from last season’s impressive tally of fifteen.
Diogo Costa was also part of the Portuguese team that featured at the Qatar World Cup 2022 but crashed out at the Quarter Finals.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will make a move for Costa, but the club’s recent interest in the young keeper suggests they are on the lookout for fresh talent between the posts.
