Ian Wright has revealed in a recent podcast that he was surprised Mikel Arteta was able to secure the signing of Norwegian midfielder Martin Odegaard and he describes the Gunners captain as a “God sent”

Martin Odegaard has proven to be a revelation for Arsenal this season, capturing the December Premier League Player of the Month award and showcasing his undeniable talent on the pitch.

After a quiet first full season with the club, it is clear that manager Mikel Arteta recognized the potential in the 24-year-old and entrusting him with the captaincy is a testament to his belief in Odegaard’s abilities.

Unlike some players who may struggle under the pressure of the captaincy, Odegaard has thrived, elevating his performance and captivating fans with his midfield brilliance.

Even Arsenal legend Ian Wright, who previously expressed skepticism about Odegaard’s signing, has been impressed, recently admitting that he was initially “scared” the player was too good for the club.

Speaking on his Wrighty Podcast   the former Arsenal striker said “I remember when Odegaard came. I did something for Norwegian TV, and I was saying, “I am very, very surprised we got him,” because, at the time, he was too good for us. He’s genuinely a God send,”.

Signed on loan before earning a permanent contract in the summer of 2022, Odegaard has been a true asset for Arsenal, providing a similar level of creativity and impact as former star Mesut Ozil.

With 8 goals and 5 assists in 18 league games this season, it is clear that Odegaard is a key contributor to the team’s success.
