Arsenal, who are chasing the Premier League title this season, could be in the market for a forward, and former winger David Bentley believes the Gunners should make a bold bid.

Arsenal has been urged to sign Callum Hudson-Odoi from Chelsea during the summer transfer window.

The 22-year-old is about halfway through his season-long loan with Bayer Leverkusen, having scored once and assisted on another in 18 appearances. After battling for a place in Chelsea’s first team, the promising winger is finally getting the playing time he requires to improve his game.

Despite Todd Boehly telling Hudson-Odoi last summer that he has a long-term future at the club, the Blues have added a number of attacking players since then. After spending over £250 million in the summer, the Blues spent another £270 million in the January transfer window, bringing in attacking reinforcements Mykhailo Mudryk, Joao Felix, and Noni Madueke.

When Hudson-loan Odoi’s in Germany expires, he will have just 12 months left on his contract, and Chelsea may see this as an ideal opportunity to cash in on the Cobham graduate. Arsenal, who are chasing the Premier League title this season, could be in the market for a forward, and former winger David Bentley believes the Gunners should make a bold bid.

Bentley explained to Bookmakers Ratings: “It depends on what level they go in for him at – if they go in at a good price, then yes – the player has talent, he’s young, and if he can fit into the Arsenal way and environment, he’s certainly a player who could be a great fit for them.

“He’s very talented, but he may have found himself in a difficult situation at Chelsea with a lot of new players and different managers, which isn’t always the best environment for a young player to develop in.

“If he can settle down at a club like Arsenal, with the full support of the club, then he’s certainly a player – if they can get him at the right price – he could end up being a great buy for Arsenal,” says the club’s president.

Bookmakers Ratings also understands that Arsenal’s priority target this summer is West Ham midfielder Declan Rice, while Leicester City star Youri Tielemans is still being monitored.

While signing a winger may not be an immediate priority after signing Leandro Trossard for £21 million in January, Hudson-Odoi would undoubtedly add quality depth.

He might also allow Gabriel Martinelli to take on a new role. Mikel Arteta has previously used Martinelli as a striker in training, and the Brazilian even starred in the role against Liverpool in the Carabao Cup during the 2019/20 season, scoring a brace in an end-to-end 5-5 draw. He performed so well in this match that Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp praised him, calling the 21-year-old a “incredible striker.”

Edu has demonstrated in the past that he is not afraid to act when an opportunity arises, and Hudson-situation Odoi’s at Stamford Bridge may be one to watch.
