Arsenal Emerges as Frontrunners to Acquire Serie-A Midfield Sensation

Arsenal have emerged front runners to land Serbian Midfielder Serge Milikovic-Savic from Lazio.

Sergej Milinković-Savić, Lazio’s highly rated Serbian midfielder, has been the subject of transfer rumors for some time.

The 25-year-old’s contract is set to expire in 2024, and his future at the Rome-based club is now up in the air.

Arsenal has been a long-time admirer of the talented Milinković-Savić, with the London club reportedly making attempts to sign him both in the summer and winter transfer windows.

Despite these offers, the player opted to remain with Lazio. However, with Milinković-Savić now seeking a new experience, his departure from the club appears to be imminent.

The player’s agent, Mateja Kezman, has had discussions with Lazio regarding a contract renewal, but so far, no progress has been made. The Serbian international has stated his desire to leave Lazio without causing too much damage to the club, and it’s believed that a summer sale would be his preferred option, as opposed to leaving for free in 2024.

Arsenal remains the favored destination for Milinković-Savić, who is determined to play in the Champions League. The London club made an attempt to sign the player in the winter transfer window, but he was reportedly hesitant to make the move.

Real Madrid has been mentioned as a potential destination for Milinković-Savić, but so far, there have been no concrete links between the player and the Spanish giants.

Lazio’s president, Claudio Lotito, previously stated that he wanted €100m for the midfielder, but this figure is now thought to be unrealistic. The club’s president could opt to force Milinković-Savić to stay for an extra year, but this carries the risk of losing him for free in 2024.

Milinković-Savić was first linked with a move to Arsenal eight years ago, when he was playing for Genk. He eventually signed with Lazio for €12m. The Serbian international is now considered one of the most sought-after midfielders in Europe, and his future is likely to be a talking point in the coming months.
